About Card Commons

Card Commons is a collection of 66 card games that run entirely in your browser. It showcases the variety of games you can play with just a deck of cards, from trick takers and shedding races to poker variants, deck builders, duelers, deduction games, and dungeon crawlers.

There’s no account to make and no game server to connect to: the rules, the opponents and your saved game all live on the device you’re reading this on.

What’s here

Some of these are my own designs. Some are traditional games that belong to everybody: Hearts, Cribbage, Durak, Schnapsen. The rest are games by other designers, built here with credit and, where their rules are published, a link to them; every game page names its designer at the bottom.

Each game page carries the full rules, and most offer a hint that suggests the move a strong opponent would make.

Three ways to play

Your games stay yours

A game in progress, your record for each game and your favorites are kept in your own browser’s local storage. Nothing is uploaded unless you send a message. Nothing is tracked, and clearing your browser data clears all of it. The Recommended tab is worked out on your device, from the games you play here.

Install it

On a phone, open the site and use “Add to Home Screen”. It installs as an app, and solo and pass-and-play then work without internet.

Get in touch if you find a bug, disagree with a ruling, or have a game you’d like to see here.
